Hello, I just saw two round orange lights floating in the sky and moving unlike a helicopter or plane at approximately 7:00 p.m. tonight January 12, 2013 in Brecksville OH.
The two lights made an upward 90 degree turn and became one orange light and disappeared. I was walking my dog and Googled what i saw when I got home. Your entry sounds a lot like what I saw.
Additional Information:The below follow-up was done by a fellow who is helping me out. It is greatly appreciated.I was able to view them for what I would guess to be two minutes or so. I saw the lights while walking my dog, to my left over the park I saw them in the sky and stopped walking to watch them.
I am not sure how high they were, but they seemed much lower than any plane that I have ever viewed and there was no flashing beacon like I always see on the regular planes that are typically way higher up and appear small in comparison.
At first I thought it was a plane flying low and that is was in trouble. There was no sound. I do see planes were we live because we are somewhat close, 20 minutes drive on the highway to Hopkins Airport and there is another small airport on the lake.
The flight pattern can be described as deliberate, sometimes it seemed like it was moving very fast right towards me/our neighborhood and then seemed like it would hover, and slightly change the angle and the height slightly that it was flying at while maintaining a very smooth approaching pattern moving in my direction, almost like an ebb and flow.
The lights were a glowing orange that appeared to be outlined with a black rim that made them round. The lights did not light up the sky and they were not like search lights. The lights were even with one another and appeared to be like on a plane but much further apart from a typical wingspan and way bigger.
The lights moved together equally. I have never seen anything like these lights. The strangest part is when it broke from that pattern just before the two lights became one light.
It appeared to turn or bank directly onto its side away from my direction and then there was one orange light, however the light was now hazy/dimmer and did not have the same very outlined round appearance/color and moved way higher in the sky appeared almost straight upwards and then instantly faded away.
I saw theses lights over the Cuyohaga National Valley Park where we live right on the parameter of the park. The sky area is urban rural, but like I said right on a National Park the sky is very visible over the valley here.
Commonly there are Life Flight Helicopters that fly over our area from an emergency center on Rt 82 that fly to Metro General Hospital in Cleveland, but what I saw was not that.
The Life Flight Helicopters are loud, have distinct lights and have a rumble that you can feel from inside the house. Also, commonly the Good Year blimps fly directly over this area, (not in winter though but it was warm yesterday here) back and forth from Cleveland to Akron. What I saw was not a blimp. The blimps are also loud and you can hear/ feel the rumble as they approach.
I have never seen lights like what I saw last night on a blimp and the blimps do not fly in the direction that these lights were. Nor can the blimps fly like what I saw. When the blimps fly we will go watch them, so I am familiar. What I can say now is that the height of the orange lights was similar to the height at which the blimps sometimes fly.
I tried to describe as best I could the details of what I saw. I am still not sure at all what I saw. I looked to the sky hoping to see them again, but there was nothing else that appeared. Thanks and let me know if you need any more information.
