We saw something exactly like you described flying over Detroit, Michigan tonight.
My husband and I both saw it, watched it until it disappeared, then went online to see if any one else saw it.
We initially thought it could have been an airplane on fire, as we are in Metro airport's flight pattern, but then it just disappeared. We're also checking local news to see if they have any footage/ explanation.
