Time: Before midnight.
Saw this same thing on July 24, 2012 just before midnight in Spokane, WA.
Bright orange glow appeared in sky to the northeast. Appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed then slowed down and continued to the southwest at the slower rate of speed.
The light appeared to go out, but was still able to see whatever it was before losing site of it on the horizon.

Thought it may be a high flying military plane catching the sun as it shines through the atmosphere at an extreme angle.
