Hi there, I came across your blog while searching for something similar to what I saw last night (20 December) around 10:00 p.m.
I saw almost exactly the same as what you described, a bright orange light, slightly bigger than a star and appeared to be travelling in a southeast to northwest direction.
There were 5-6 of us at a Braai who saw it. There was a very slight flicker to it, though nothing like an airplane's lighting. We observed it for 3-4 minutes, where it just flickered away.
Interestingly, as we were observing it we noticed another white light, which looked like any other star in the sky, cross it perpendicularly at what seemed to be quite a speed and much higher than the orange light.
We assumed this must be a satellite or something, but it stood out because of the way the 2 objects, both moving quite noticeably, just crossed each other.
Just figured it share it with you, as a witness account seems to match mine exactly.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
Also, please feel free to send in your sightings that have happened years ago. So many of these older sightings are nothing short of amazing.
