My 12 year old grandson and I saw the same thing you saw, right at midnight in Sacramento, California. We thought perhaps a comet at first, but moving too slow.
He looked through binoculars and it was definitely not a plane or helicopter. I immediately came to the internet to see if anyone else in Sacramento spotted this, how strange that you saw the same thing in your location.
