Hello, I saw a very similar thing on New Year's Eve in Los Angeles. I've been searching the internet and it seems many people across the country had a similar experience.
We were outside around 12:10 a.m. and saw what appeared to be an orange bright light, almost fireball looking, going across the sky, very high up and absolutely silent. Then it went up even higher, sort of zig zagged and the light started going out, suddenly got brighter, and then was gone.
Then suddenly, we saw another approach and the exact same thing happened, followed by a third. I've never seen anything like it.
Then, around 1:30 a.m., we left my friend's house, and my husband shouted pull over, there's another. This time when the light went out, we could still see an outline, sort of a dot going through the sky.
Have you had other responses of folks seeing the same thing? I know there was one in Portland as well.
A friend tried to convince me that it was Chinese lanterns, but it was way too high and lasted too long. I've never seen anything like it.
